In Memory of Nancy B. Parks

St. Paul’s Family,

Last December we learned of the passing of Nancy Parks; a former First Lady of St. Paul’s, married to our former Rector Bob Parks, a sister-in-law, a cousin, and a friend. The Parks left St. Paul’s years ago geographically but have remained connected even after Bob’s passing.

Nancy was a “Top Contributor,” if you will, on our Facebook stream. When called upon—or simply hearing of a need—Nancy was always willing to support St. Paul’s.

Her funeral was delayed due to the New York weather but is scheduled for this Sunday. If you would like to watch the service online, please visit Trinity Church and click the “Live Now” button in the top right corner.

After speaking with her son, John, your Vestry has voted to send a memorial gift, in lieu of flowers, to a charity that was dear to Nancy’s heart. John was very excited that we would support the Fellowship. This gift not only honors Nancy, but also her husband Bob and her sister Mary Stuart.

There was discussion about whether we should simply send flowers, or even do something here in Quincy in her honor that might have a more direct impact. However, most if not all of us have in some way been personally impacted by cancer. Supporting the Parks Hope Funds for Cancer Research Fellowship has the potential to help many people going forward.

We can still do something locally; this gift does not need to stand alone. If you have an idea of something we can do to honor Nancy and would like help getting it started, please speak with Mtr. Tanya. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Peace,
Mark Armesto

Senior Warden

From the Hope Funds for Cancer Research – 2021 Honorees

Philanthropy – Nancy B. Parks

Mrs. Parks established the Parks Hope Funds for Cancer Research Fellowship in 2019 to support furthering scientific understanding of the underlying causes of cancers, and to support and encourage the most talented young researchers in this field.

Improved prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer is an important philanthropic pursuit of the Parks family. Mrs. Parks established the fund to honor her late husband, The Reverend Doctor Robert Ray Parks, and her late sister, Mary Stuart Auman.

Mrs. Parks, who resided in New York City, was the widow of Rev. Dr. Parks, the 15th Rector of Trinity Church, Wall Street in New York. Over her many years of outreach and service, Mrs. Parks served on numerous boards and organizations whose missions align with the betterment of humanity.

A longtime supporter of Hope Funds, she was inducted in 2018 into the organization’s Order of Hope.
